The Colors of Indonesia - Indonesian Artistry at its Finest

In collaboration with Agam Riadi, Sammy Hendramianto, and Yuni Jie for The Colors of Indonesia (TCOI) 2024 exhibition, we created three special rug designs that were inspired by vibrant summer days. Each rug represents the design identity of the designers and the room they were assigned with; the tropicality of Agam Riadi’s living room, the dramatic flair of Sammy Hendramianto’s bathroom, the bright and breeziness of Yuni Jie’s casual dining area.

With inspirations coming from the vibrant greens and intricate patterns of Indonesia tropical greeneries in mind, our artisans carefully crafted Agam Riadi’s rug using Viscose yarn, known for its soft, silk-like texture and ability to reflect light. With 30 color combinations for the smooth change of tones, the result is a tapestry of leaves that seemed to come alive, with each thread echoing the delicate veins of the foliage it depicted. 

The rug, a vibrant slice of the tropics, is a woven tribute to the beauty and serenity of nature, bringing the tranquil, verdant spirit of the rainforest into the comfort of your home. More than a decoration element; it celebrates the majestic lushness of Indonesia's endemic plants. It invites you to enjoy, relax, and be transported to a space where nature’s wild beauty and human design coexist in perfect harmony.

Inspired by the harmony in Tenun Gringsing pattern and the drama in Bali sunset, Sammy Hendramianto designed a rug that’s not only showing the best fusion of Indonesian textile and nature colors, but also durable using acrylic threads as its material. 

As you look at the carpet, you are greeted with colors reminiscent of a Balinese sunset. The deep, rich oranges and glowing reds at the base transition into golden yellows, all of which seem to fade softly near the edges of Tenun Gringsing pattern. These hues bring to life the tranquil yet vibrant moments as the sun dips below the horizon, casting its final light across the island’s sky. When you step on it, it feels like you are grounding yourself in the island’s soul. It is a bridge between time-honored traditions and nature’s daily artistry, bringing the sacredness of Bali’s heritage and the beauty of its sunsets into any modern space.

Mimicking the soft, light taupe tones and the subtle grain of Japanese maple wood, Yuni Jie’s rug creation brings a sense of calm and natural beauty to the space. The rug’s delicate viscose yarn glimmers as it catches the light, creating an inviting ambiance in the casual dining room where family members gather not just to eat, but to share stories and relax.
